This book is very romantic and imaginative. One day at Mica High a strange young girl named Stargirl shows up. Leo, the main character and the narrator, is trying to avoid her. Everyone is trying to avoid her because she is weird. Everyone is kind of creeped out when it is someones birthday and she knows all about it. Leo's friend Kevin wants to get Stargirl on Hot Seat, the schools TV show, because of the incident that happend when she was dancing on the field at the football game. Leo comes up with these strange reasons why she can't be on the show. Soon he finds out that Stargirl has a deep crush on him. "Oh no creepy girl has a crush on me!" Then he realizes that he likes - maybe even loves her. They start dating after one uncomfortable night at Stargirl's house. Everyone starts to avoid the both of them and Leo is starting to get annoyed with it. Even Kevin isn't talking to him. After that Leo had a little talk with her about her weirdness. The next few days Leo couldn't find Stargirl at all. All of a sudden no more Stargirl... just Susan. Susan has entered a speech contest. She told Leo and most of the school one speech and she recited a totally different one at the contest. Of course she won the contest. She expected everyone to be in the parking lot with banners and streamers and confetti but (yes the dreaded but ) the only people there were her parents, the principal and vice principal, and her only friend. Susan was so upset that she changed back to Stargirl just like that. She came back with everything.
